Mount Teide

Today we visited the centre of Tenerife, and it's highest point is the 10,000 feet high Mount Teide. No ... we didn't walk up it - there is a cable car that takes you near to the top. (Though you need a permit to climb any higher towards the crater). Interesting day, we set off mid-morning, lunched on the way, and arrived at about 1pm. Parking was a nightmare (we eventually got a spot as someone was moving out) - people were parking up to 2 miles away from the place.

Queues were horrendous, but fortunately, we'd bought tickets over the internet in advance, BUT that only meant we could exchange them for actual tickets for the day, and the earliest spot was 4.30.  Under normal circumstances, we'd have gone off to explore the area, but trying to re-park the car really didn't appeal, so we made an ice cream last as long as possible, and passed the 2 1/2 hours playing 20 questions.

Once we were allowed to join the queue, it took a further hour before we reached the cable car, going up it at 5.30. The views from the top, whilst hazy, were impressive.

Delays and disruption aside, we had a great day. This image was taken on the way home.
