Born in Cheetham Hill, Manchester in 1931,
Jack studied Eng Lit at Sheffield Uni and went on
to become a respected playwright. Of particular note
is Bar Mitzvah Boy, which he wrote

and got a Bafta for. And, this is quite a feat,
he penned 129 episodes of Coronation Street
as well as contributing to TW3 and
co-writing Yentl with Barbara Streisand.

In 1974 Maureen Lipman became his wife.
He was a Man U fan all of his life
(yes, not City, but Man U)
and died in Barnet, London aged 72.
