If you can't beat them...

My brother needed a hand with a two man job so as I headed that way in the afternoon I was thinking "he will have things in his garden I haven't blipped".  I was right so during tea breaks I wandered round with the camera.  I took quite a number of shots and through the view finder I thought that's the one as I was taking a shot of Romneya coulterii.

Well I was right (but not the shot I expected).  The Californian Tree poppy is a plant we have sadly been unable to grow at home so I thought the lovely white flower would be great.  However it was the shot I took later with the macro lens which I settled on.

I have tentatively identified this as a female Syrphus torvus.  Female because the eyes are separate.  They touch in males.  Syrphus because going by the identification photos the pattern says it is one of the 4 species of Syrphus.  Torvus because of the fringes of hairs round the eyes.

If any one can confirm or deny the identification I would be grateful.
