A leek on the phone
Or, only in Wales?
Carnival day and people were dressed up on the floats. I didn't see the parade because I was involved, with others, in arranging and personning the Croeso Abergwaun/Welcome to Fishguard stall informing people about our scheme to settle three Syrian refugee families in the community. We had a little game for children, some Syrian pastries*, an invitation to jot down what people felt that strangers arriving here with nothing would most need (friendship was mentioned more than once), plus information about what our group is aiming to do. All the responses were positive and we felt encouraged by our first toe dip into the waters of public opinion.
* Anyone interested can find some useful recipes here. I made date cookies and za'artar swirls and most people seemed to like them.
