New Haw Lock
We could not expect 3 perfect days on a bank holiday weekend, and this morning was a little cooler than it has been and we even had a bit of rain. We had a quiet (and boring) day at home, everyone just relaxing and not doing much. We had a lovely dinner out for Adam's birthday last night and we all felt a bit full still from supper!
Tomorrow for my birthday we had booked to go to a restaurant that we have not been to before - so after lunch Gavin and I drove there to have a look at it. It did not look very appealing, so we have changed our booking. However, near the restaurant there are canals and locks and so we stopped off at New Haw Lock where I took some photos. "Haw" is an old word for "lock gate", and it is possible that New Haw developed following the installation of the "new" lock gate in 1653. The lock cottage is reputed to be haunted by a lock keepers wife! Further along we came to another canal where they had some pretty house boats, as can be seen in my extra shot.
I am about to go prepare dinner - Moroccan lamb tagine - I seem to be on a Moroccan theme this week!
