365 on H Street NE
Big Gamble
My initial goal was to take a photo a day in my neighborhood on Capitol Hill and finish at 365 . Here we have my 365 th entry which comes with a small story.
Attempting to photograph every day an image that says something to at least yourself is indeed an interesting challenge. Many times i felt blipped out ,unable to conjure a suitable photo of the day out of either an idea or an aimless walk ,shooting street signs or graffiti.
There were times i felt charged up and really enjoyed the challenge ,other times, what is this crap i shot today!
A couple of weeks back i started to think about 365 and what ideas or a plan i could dream up.
Really it had to fit in with my evening walk up and down H street ,so on my walk one Friday evening i left home thinking about 365 and i had walked only a few blocks but the whole time the brain is going ...where is or what is this 365 shot going to be.
I stopped at the light to cross the street, looking down i found that i was surrounded by playing cards in a random jumble all over the street but not that many cards, certainly not a whole deck. It was a sign, i loved it, i pounced on the cards and started excitedly flipping them over to try and find a 3and a 6 and a 5 . Whooping when i managed to collect a 6 of diamonds and then a 5 of spades. I was being noticed by passersby as some kind of mad fellow running around the intersection picking up run over dirty playing cards and then throwing them away when they did not yield a 3, it must have looked pretty strange.
Alas a 3 was not there, now i am perplexed, i crossed the street in defeat no number 3 now what.
After walking a short distance i noticed another small group of the same type of cards face down in the gutter, i almost passed them by ,but thought come on give it a last shot ,you never know your luck.
The first and the second, no good, give up, forget it...the very last card, last chance almost did not bother ,come on Neil do it ,flipped it over and i had a 3 of hearts.
Wahoo!! More jumping and whooping...
There is more, that was Friday evening, next morning i take the same walk along H St to the local farmers market thinking to myself i will return to the intersection and collect some more of the cards so i can make a group shot or something. Not a card in site ,not even one ,the night before now seemed like a dream but there on the mantelpiece were the 3 cards.
Thank you all for the visits and the comments, i am not signing off completely but will take a little time of to put the 365 into a book or an exhibition in the neighborhood.
Would like to see if it can manifest into another form.
I am sure the addiction to blipping every day will not go away so easily.
See you all ,keep the faith.
