Grain spit

This is Grain tower and it sits on Grain spit to protect the entrance of the river Medway; this is where the Medway meets the Thames. It was built in the mid19th century and is like a Martello tower but in the river. Wikipedia has lots of details and in the extras are more shots and also a snap of Garrison Point - a fortification which is now in Sheerness docks.

It's the first time I've been to Grain beach and it's smashing. Getting there is fascinating as the road runs past oil and gas terminals and the container seaport.
