Up on the Roof...
I had a terrible night's sleep last night. Still awake at 2am full of aches. Had a painkiller and eventually dozed off only to wake at 3.45am. Spent what felt like ages trying to get comfortable before finally falling asleep again. When the alarm went off at 6.30am I was really comfy and in a deep sleep so thought stuff it, and re-set if for 7.30am.
Alan's new support worker Kirsten was here today to do a shadow shift with Anna. He was pleased to see her and things all seemed to go smoothly. She's back again tomorrow and he seemed quite happy with that.
I phoned the dentist first thing to try and get an emergency appointment this week to have my crumbling molar sorted. The receptionist said she would phone me back. I'm still waiting. Also phoned the District nurse to see when she was coming it take blood from Alan so that's arranged for between 10.30 and midday tomorrow. He's quite excited about it! Honestly, who gets excited about a blood test?! lol More likely he's looking forward to seeing the nurse!
Gastro nurse phoned at 10.30 this morning to discuss his colitis flare up. She was very impressed that we'd handed a stool sample in to the health centre last week (infact the result is back and it's all clear so we know it's a flare up and not an infection causing his symptoms) and arranged his prescription for steroids. She suggested the next step was a blood test and I was able to tell her that was also in hand so she was even more impressed. Having seen Alan suffer so terribly in the past with a flare up, we now waste no time in making sure he has what he needs to get over it ASAP. It breaks my heart to see him in pain.
Then this afternoon we got a phone call from Sheila, Alan's physiotherapist, offering him a block of hydrotherapy at the hospital pool. Sadly he can't take up her offer because of this colitis flare up, which is just his luck because when she phoned to offer him a swimming block in May, he couldn't go to it because he had that bad bite on is finger. Such a shame. Never mind, Sheila is very good and is going to try and fit him into her swimming schedule before the year ends, so hopefully he'll get able to attend those sessions.
Hectic here today. Driveway had 4 builders vans and two cars in it at one point. Then the skip lorry arrived to do a skip change over. Lots of manoeuvring and three point turns. I stayed out the way :-)
David stuck his phone through the skylight in the spare room upstairs to get a new perspective on the build.
Here's tonight's slice of Bee Gees parody, which also contains a tiny reference to Gene Wilder in Willy Wonka. That seems fitting.
RIP Gene Wilder, a rare and excellent talent.
