Low tide
A raging easterly blew in today off the southern ocean and it was wet, windy and cold. A great day to light a fire and stay indoors, but who needs that!?
Claire, Robbie and I waited for low tide in the bay to take Skye out for a walk and back. Muddy tidal flats dotted with snails and washed up kelp fronds, rubber wellingtons and rain jackets, spongy pools, and white grains of sand blowing over the beach are just a few things that come to mind.
With this weather blowing in the tide is up and our knee high crossing of the inlet turned into a waist deep thrashing through cold waves! What an adventure. Wringing out salty water logged clothes on the boulders we followed tunnel-like eucalyptus forests and sheep paddocks ringing the bay. It all felt very mysterious, and middle earth-esque passing under enormous gnarled cedars and tree ferns echoing the calls of tui birds all the way home.
Back indoors hours later a hot cup of tea was never so well earned...
