Playing the Pipes for a Lady
I slept late. I have been lucky with having no obvious after effects of eating gluten on Saturday. What's happening to my small intestine might be a different matter.
For a change, Bank Holiday Monday was gloriously sunny. Len announced that he was going to stop taking pain killers for his leg this week, which I took as a good sign.
He didn't need much persuading in joining Basil and me on a trip to the Countryside Fair at Beacon Hill. The venue is on the western side of the hill with expansive views.
As well as the normal attractions, such as the RSPB, the Wildlife Trust, the National Trust, the county council, et seq, there was a wide assortment of food stalls serving hot meals, pizzas, street food, crepes, cheese, ice cream, but still no tea tent. Whatever happened to the WI?
The Green Man was wandering around the site. I spotted him shortly after arriving but he didn't want to stand in a way that would make it easy for me to take his photo.
But he did stop to play his pipe for this young lady, who looks a little unsure.
I missed the sheep dog training the racer ducks because we bumped into Rosie and Pegasus who have become famous on Facebook after Rosie was adopted from the Dogs' Trust. She had been pregnant with nine puppies, news to her new owners. Both she and her son were in immaculate condition. They are powerful staffies. That didn't stop Basil barking his objection to Rosie invading his personal space. Poor Rosie. She cowered back under Gillian's skirts.
We watched the parade of the magnificent shire horses in the ring, then found Chez Ricardo who was serving some eminently delicious beef with stilton. His coffee was hot and tasty. His name was Alec and he's just starting off in business. I took his photo.
