What's in a name

There are some who think that"Egg Pie Lane" is wrong, and that its original name was Magpie Lane. However  there are very old farmhouses along this lane. Long years ago egg pies (now called custard tarts) were almost always included in the weekly baking. Perhaps weary travellers along this old lane received hospitality at the farmhouses and enjoyed egg pies and so the lane got its name.
