Edinburgh Festival Finale Fireworks

We were in Princes Street Gardens enjoying the Fireworks this evening, sitting in our wee folding chairs right under the spectacle.  Of course it was rather too close for good pics, but we enjoyed the Romeo & Juliet theme, and the West Side Story excerpts where quiet popping fireworks were very gentle and well timed to the music.  How do they do that?
