Bracken Turning
Although pleasantly warm, there was no mistaking this was the last day of August. There was an air of languidity about the day, the sun was not so bright and it became chill quickly after sunset. On the way home after visiting Sue and Kal, Basil and I found ourselves at Fox Covert in the Ulverscroft Nature Reserve.
The notice board said there were all sorts of flowers and birds to be seen. For the first part of our stroll down the track, I heard no birds at all. The trees were heavy. It's the hiatus before Autumn.
This bracken had already turned a golden brown but the rest was still stolidly green.
Gill returned my call shortly before 6 pm and invited us round to celebrate her birthday with a bottle of champagne. I called in at Tesco to buy a few snacks, so we had a picnic as well. Len arrived just as Geoffrey had popped the cork.
