Didn't expect this.

I'm no expert but this appears to be a mushroomy fungus of some sort. There was a little group of three alongside one of the streets in our neighborhood this morning. Not something I can recall seeing before, here in the desert SW. The ground around them didn't look particularly damp, and they would be in full sun during the afternoon.
I'll have to drive by on the way home to see how they fared. The two that were left, that is, after K kicked one over.
I hope it really is a fungus - the only other possible explanation could be Triffids.
