Scotland's Alcatraz

Today I found myself with the opportunity for a wee hurl on a high-speed rib, and a trip out to the world's largest single rock bird sanctuary. The Bass Rock.

Over the centruries the Bass has been a prison, a leper colony and a naval defence battery. Nowadays it's home to several hundred thousand gannets, shags, cormorants, seals and other wildlife that the guide told us about, but that I was too thick to remember.
