Artificial Islands

To make Seafield Pond more attractive to wildlife , a few years ago the local authority installed a few artificial islands where the birds could perch. They are well used by the birds as this image of a heron and ducks indicates but unfortunately they are not particularly photogenic. They seem to made of some floating material encased in a tarpaulin and secured with rope webbing. I would not thought it would be beyond the wit of man to include some vegetation on these islands.

Seafield Pond is itself  a man made pool covering over an old rubbish dump and there are a couple of escape pipes for methane gas to disperse but the pool has been attractively landscaped with trees down its west side and reed beds around the edges of the pool.
