An ordinary life....

Skyhole...

I had a lovely blip planned for today having decided the first day of September would mark a return to using my proper camera on a regular basis.  Oh what a romantic wee notion that was.  *rolls eyes*

Busy day again.

The building site was exceptionally busy.  Four big and one small van today.  The boss was on site around midday then this afternoon I saw a guy floating about with a shirt and tie on.  I am guessing he was someone from Building Control paying an impromptu visit.  He was very jolly whoever he was, so I assume he was happy with what he found.

I spent the afternoon writing thank you cards for Alan's birthday pressies and thank you / goodbye cards for Alan's support workers Jo and Nicole who are both leaving this weekend.   So sad to see them go but for once we're on the ball and have recruited two new support workers, Kirsten and Ashleigh who are both lovely and have got Alan's seal of approval.   We've also got Natasha who's new and is an agency support worker.   She will cover annual leave and sickness days and she is wonderful too.

We are so very lucky to have all these wonderful people in our lives but it is exhausting getting to know everyone, getting them trained and making sure they are comfortable with their tasks and getting them familiar with not just Alan's routine, but our routine as a family.

It seems we get to the stage of getting all the available hours covered and that lasts a couple of months then someone leaves / gets ill and it's back down the snake again.  It's not just the hassle of recruiting but the emotional toll of losing people who have become such an integral part of our lives, especially for Alan whose emotional investment in those who care for him is huge.

Hope that doesn't sound like I am complaining as I'm not, I just need to acknowledge (to myself really) that it's ok to feel a bit unsettled and sad when things change.

Anyway, back to photos.  As you can see, all I managed to do today was hold my phone up to the kitchen window and take a snap.  The sky through the sky hole was looking rather menacing.   Then David told me this evening that the Skypod is getting fitted on Saturday.  That will be exciting!

But right now it's time for bed :-))

Night night.
