A coot
Not sure whether it is young or old, but there is a family of them that hang out near the Alameda bridge where the irrigation drain rejoins the river. They stay far away from the geese, ducks and cranes who tend to hangout in the middle of the stream on sandbanks and on the edges of the river far away from any trails. As you can see in this picture the Rio Grande is living up to it's reputation as "an inch deep and a mile wide".
I took a lot of pictures today and none were particularly striking to me. The dog says it is because I didn't take him on any of the trips.
Today I am grateful for air, and that I was here to breathe it today, a son who was willing to take an interesting short road trip to Jemez with me today, and and interesting life.
