Arlington Court
It was grey, misty and wet when I woke up, so I lay in bed reading my book and listening to the rain. We weren’t sure what to do today, but ended up heading to yet another National Trust place – Arlington Court. It was still very grey when we arrived, but we went for a walk in the formal and walled garden, admiring the peacock, which just wanted to have a snooze. We sheltered from the rain in the church before moving on to the carriage museum. Who knew there were so many makes and models of carriages, but I guess they were the cars of their day. The most magnificent was the golden seventeenth century Speaker’s state coach. We headed back to the house to find a picnic spot, which wasn’t easy as they were very much in demand. After lunch we went in search of the adventure playgrounds, at one point walking along an avenue of monkey puzzle trees.
The adventure playgrounds were great and BB had a fabulous time, especially at the bigger of the two, which was like an assault course that he had almost to himself. He would have stayed all afternoon, but we eventually moved him on. Last stop was the house. Although he had a kids tour to do, BB didn’t move much past the exploration room for kids, where he sat and did a very tricky jigsaw, then he rushed round the house doing his poisonous poems tour.
I love the stone walls in Devon and Cornwall. This one was near the adventure playground on Arlington Estate.
