Comb-footed orb weaver

Enoplognathus ovata

At the allotment today, to take advantage of the unexpected sunshine. I harvested some broad beans and some petit pois, dug over a bed where the courgettes had been eaten up by the slugs, and picked some of the blackcurrants.

That's where I spotted this pretty wee spider. Happily, the take-away box formed an accidental softbox, so I was able to capture her lovely markings. There are many different colour morphs of this species, some just boring green on the abdomen...they're very fierce, too; taking insects up to 3 times their size.

Very pleased with the Curiosity Rover making a good landing :))))
