Novoslobodskaya
One of Moscow's most flamboyant metro stations. Commissioned in 1952 and decorated with 32 illuminated stained glass murals designed by the artist Pavel Korin and constructed by a team of Latvian artists (at that time, there was no tradition of stained glass in Russia) with glass taken from a stock at Riga Cathedral. The station is an obvious favourite of tour groups.
Interestingly, the mosaic at the end of the hall, titled "World Peace", initially included a depiction of Stalin. The mural was bricked up after his death and re-opened during the Brezhnev era with that image replaced by the doves now visible.
