Cunninghame Graham

Robert Bontine Cunninghame Graham (London, 24 May 1852 - Buenos Aires, 20 March 1936) was a Scottish politician, writer, journalist and adventurer. He was a Liberal Party Member of Parliament (MP); the first-ever socialist member of the Parliament of the United Kingdom; a founder, and the first president, of the Scottish Labour Party (1888-1893); a founder of the National Party of Scotland in 1928; and the first president of the Scottish National Party in 1934.

This monument, at Gartmore, was removed from Castlehill, Dumbarton and moved to be closer to the principal Graham estate. It stands, grandly, on a raised piece of ground over the Gartmore football pitch. We saw it in the pouring rain on the first Sunday of our Scottish tour.
