Our juniors Shooting at 50M....
We decided about two weeks ago to take all the six juniors to an outdoor range and let them have ago at prone shooting at 50 meters.
We met at the Dudley Rifle Club house at 9.30 and we all left for the 40 mile trip to Bromyard ranges as Robin who runs the Bromyard Rifle club had allowed us to use their range with six targets set up for us for a nominal sum of money which wouldn’t break the bank.
We took four club rifles and I took his own too, with five mats, rest bags and enough ammo to complete the course of fire.
We intended to introduce our wonderful juniors to the disciplines of outdoor shooting so Bob ran it like a competition and used all the correct sequence of commands and the girls and boys had to follow instructions to the letter, I can say that no one let us down.
First course of fire was to zero in all the rifles and all our kids were very accurate in their endeavours and within 5 shots all of the rifles were zeroed. Then we went into our first detail of 2 x 5 shots on the centre two diagrams. A quick turn around and Kirsty went into her detail as we only had five rifles Kirsty did well even though she was the centre of attention for her detail, once again she shot the two centre diagrams in a completion format. I can say that none of our intrepid juniors let us down but as ever there can be only one winner and Brandon won the first contest with a score of 93/100
A quick break for lunch and drinks and we were off again, this time a couple of Dads had a shoot too and they did have a tussle between Colin and Simon, I won’t embarrass anyone but there were a few shots that went astray.
We then went onto the final shoot of the day and a fantastic shoot off the final winner was Olivia with 91/100.
Finally I dressed into his shooting jacket, sling and all the shooting Paraphernalia and he showed the juniors how long standing shooters have to shoot at 50 meters.
It was a great day out for the juniors and they all did amazing as they shot for the first time at 50 meters.
The juniors now will graduate to the main body of the club and hopefully start to travel along the road to being top class shooters for Dudley Rifle Club.
