A great artist

Today I drove down to Cobham to meet up with a fellow Blipper and enjoyed a coffee with  her. On the way back I diverted down Ember Lane in East Molesey to visit the site of the rambling house, Freshfields, which was the home of artist Terence Cuneo until his death in 1996. Seven new houses now inhabit the site.

Terence is possibly best known for his paintings of railways and locomotives, but was also a prolific war artist, among many other subjects. He painted the Queen too on one occasion. You can see the website here.

Back in the late sixties I worked in his garden and I remember the day when he came down the garden to chat. Pointing to an old compost heap he announced 'If you dig under there you'll find some damn good soil'! He was rather posh!

His signature was a mouse, which can be most somewhere in all of his paintings if you look hard enough!
