Historic Salisbury

Another historic part of Salisbsury city centre, known as Butcher Row.
This street, along with Oatmeal Row, Ox Row and Fish Row all originate in the city’s patter of trading in medieval times, and this one runs parallel with the Market Place which would have been the centre of trade, and still hosts a twice weekly market where you can buy most things, from meat to fish, clothes to household utensils, even have your hair cut
Many of the buildings in Butcher Row date from the 16th century, although most have been much restored and altered. And those  on this side of the street front both the Market Place and Butcher Row.

At 8am it’s largely deserted but give it another half hour and both sides will be buzzing with activity, especially on the Tuesday and Saturday market days.
