Calling yesteryear . . .
Seeing this in a shop today reminded me of our first telephone at home in the mid-70's. Though a design classic of its time it is positively 'retro' now!
Some may recall how parents could lock the phone by securing a small metal device with a key within one of the dialling holes. Children up and down the UK soon found a way of overriding this simply by tapping the spring-loaded rests upon which the handset lay.
At the end of each quarter when the new bill came there were puzzled parents frustratedly trying to work out why their phone bills were still rising, despite their best efforts!
