Recently a field of unusual blue flowers attracted my attention but today almost all of the flowers are over. I picked some to identify and discover it is Phacelia Tanacetifolia or Lacy Phacelia.
It is often planted as a green manure in strips of arable land and then ploughed in to improve the soil.  The flowers are also very attractive to bees and other beneficial insects or pollinators.   It starts as a little spiral and as the flowers die and the seed develops, the stem uncoils and straightens so these seedheads appear to have a hook like shape.

Thankyou for all the kind comments and wishes on my 4 years of Blip yesterday.
