Eros on the cliffs

The clifftops can be a good place for a spot of canoodling but these two slugs had chosen the warm damp evening to go all the way.
 Slugs are hermaphrodites and adopt this sensuous yin-yang position in order to exchange sperm by entwining their  penises - the translucent blue lump seen between them here. Rather disturbingly the penises are extruded from the side of the head and even more disturbingly, if the love-knot cannot be undone after the sexual act is completed, as sometimes happens, one slug will bite off the penis of the other. This means that in future the emasculated one will only be able to reproduce as a female. 
There maybe moral to be drawn from this but on the whole I'd rather knot.

I'm quite relieved that slugs didn't appear on the menu of my previous blip which also featured [creepy-] crawlies.
