Management has made the decision to reduce the bed numbers by five, because the severe shortage of nursing staff, which has resulted in nurses doing multiple shifts, and/or there being inadequate numbers for safe care. That will of course have ramifications not just for our unit, but for the whole Auckland region. It will be a gradual reduction as we can't just send five patients home or somewhere else.

Strangely, all this seems to be a sideshow to the ongoing day to day work which is apparently producing positive results.

On the way home, I took a small diversion to get a photo of this painted telecoms box. The artist is Paul Walsh, and he was sponsored by Magda Coccinella. I first saw it a few months ago.
