Helping Mum
Back blip. Whilst Julian was trimming slates with a claw hammer ( as discovered on you tube) I swept up pine needles. The conversation with mum you may imagine:
Mum: oh that's nice of you, Linda
Me: ok mum, is there anything else can do?
Actual conversation:
Mum: oh Linda let me show you how to do it. ( taking brush from me) you must push the brush. If you don't it will be a half job and I will have to do it myself.
Me: feeling like I'm a five year old child, do not reply. I take the brush and continue as I was before, pulling the brush.
I remember so vividly how I felt as a child and young adult living at home. Nothing I did was as efficient as mum could do. Nothing changes, even though I am 51 and mum is 80. I am still a child and I'm useless at doing everything. Everything I do is micro managed. I am a disappointing daughter. I am determined to be grateful for any help my children give when I am old and will genuinely not care if any job is not done in the exact same way that I would do it.
