Over The Creek.
The Chowey Bridge. Built in 1905. Takes the railway line over Deep Creek near Biggenden. The Queensland Railways engineer was William Pagan. He came from Holestane in Dumfries,Scotland. Arrived here about 1875.
This was the first all concrete bridge of its kind in Australia, the main span being 88 ft. The sand aggregate came directly from the creek bed. Cost of the viaduct and labour was £1788. Pagan said at the time of completion "a concrete bridge of somewhat novel design". Closed to trains since 2002, the line is still kept repaired in case needed for future mineral finds.
