More water

When the rain finally stopped this afternoon, we went out in search of . . . water!
 
This is the Lowther at Bampton and my has it grown!! From being a small river, as two streams joined together at its source, the river has become a major flow of water. And that’s not just because of all the rain today.
 
As it has been making its way north, the Lowther has picked up many tributaries, which in turn have brought water from all the high fells in this area.
 
That is why this picture is significant. The Lowther is flowing towards us, but coming in from the right is a major tributary – Haweswater Beck. This stream is the outflow from Haweswater, the reservoir constructed when the valley was flooded. Presumably the beck is controlled at the dam, but it still brings water from the high fells where many people walk, as it has done for a long, long time.

We don't need any more rain tomorrow!
