St. Mary's Church - Oxenhope

More correctly this is the parish church of St Mary the Virgin, on the Hebden Bridge road out of Oxenhope. 
It has had a lot of work done to it over the last two years, and today it was participating in the Heritage Open Days initiative.
Whilst it looks quite old - with its Norman like architecture - the church is 19th Century and was founded by the Reverend Joseph Brett Grant at the behest of the Reverend Patrick Brontë. 
The Rev Grant was tireless in collecting money to fund the building of the church and Charlotte Brontë records that he wore out 80 pairs of shoes in his quest to do so. The foundation stones of the church were laid in 1849.
