Gelsemium sempervirens.......

.....otherwise known as Caroline jessamine, a twining vine with evergreen long broad and dark green leaves with yellow trumpet-like flowers borne in clusters.  It's flowers are strongly scented and produce nectar that attracts the wax-eyes and bumble bees. I've not seen honey bee's near it and have discovered through my research the nectar is toxic to honey bees, thank goodness they know.

Historically Caroline jessamine was used to treat measles, tonsillitis, muscular rheumatism and headaches but it's perhaps better known to be the state flower of South Carolina - a pretty one to.

A productive day in the garden planting out some new perennials, hopefully providing some much needed spring and summer flowers in the 'bee and butterfly' garden. All quite hardy so any future frosts shouldn't harm them.

Lovely bright day, warm in the sun with a cool gentle breeze - Happy Saturday everyone :)
