A great day for the earth
Portland has the ninth-highest concentration of Native Americans of any city in the USA. Today members of the Native American community organized a rally in solidarity with Standing Rock, where there is resistance to a planned pipeline that would bulldoze native sacred sites and endanger the water supply for thousands. Later in the day, President Obama announced that work will immediately cease on the pipeline. It may not be final, but it is very encouraging.
The rally was loving--of the earth and the people on it. The leaders said repeatedly, this is not about protest; it's about protecting the earth. There was singing, dancing, drumming, and praying. The City of Portland sent a representative with an official statement of solidarity with those who stand at Standing Rock. I took over 300 photos, of which I've posted about 85 here.
Later in the day there was a march in solidarity with prisoners and to end prison slavery. I'll post pictures from that march tomorrow.
