Cultural Hero

Michali (there are quite a few of them) works for the island's council and is responsible for the planning permissions given for new and restored buildings. One of the very biggest appeals that Symi has is that there are no new looking or modern buildings on the island, they are all built in the neo-classical italian-greko style of the late 19th and early 20th century. Quite simply, the island looks spectacular and Michali here is largely responsible. That makes him a bit of a hero in my books and a rather bloody excellent chap to boot.
