Variety
A local circuit of Baildon Bank, Shipley Glen and Trench Meadows SSSI threw up not a huge quantity but a fairly impressive variety of butterflies for mid-September. Speckled Wood were most numerous as they have been for a couple of weeks, but there were also several Large and Small White, a couple of Peacocks and Painted Ladies and Red Admirals and single Comma, Small Tortoiseshell and Small Copper as well as a few Silver-Ys.
This is definitely been my best year for Painted Ladies since I started recording around five years ago, with multiple sightings in several locations during the past few weeks. Today's were in Trench Meadows, where the Devil's-bit Scabious was providing some late season sustenance.
