St Peter's Church
We took a walk from our cottage in Sibton Green round the village, using footpaths marked on the OS map, which took us from our quiet country road down a concrete path to a badly-overgrown track, but which opened up to walking besides fields, mainly of stubble. One crop we recognised (and has been subsequently identified by Pleach as Phacelia tanacetifolia) gave us good views of Common Blue butterflies, while among hedges prolific with brambles, sloes and wild plums we saw Large Whites, Speckled Wood, Painted Lady and Red Admiral.
A section of our route was along a very busy road with no footway and narrow verge close to the hedge and we were relieved to find respite in the graveyard of the village church, where we ate our picnic in peace before entering the church.
St Peter's, Sibton has some lovely features, including a hammer-beam roof and the font, which dates from the C15.
We continued along quieter road and footpath, (though were dismayed to be obliged to climb over an electric fence and cross a pasture where no route was marked except from the opposite direction) past a field with guinea fowl and rabbits and back to our cottage.
