Not a big blue tin
US post boxes are traditionally big blue metal boxes, bolted to the pavement. This, much more elegant example, was in the corner of the hotel lobby in San Francisco. I doubt the post office picks up mail there these days. Cutbacks to reduce the losses to a level they like better, I imagine.
This dates to the days when the people on the upper floors dropped their outgoing post in a chute. These days, if it wasn't for Amazon and the other big package shippers, I think the PO would have gone bust.
Time to kill in SFO after a fun reunion with the Fawns. What a laugh.
