9/11 REMEMBRANCE
This is what the sky looked like for three days after the planes hit the towers in New York City.
My husband was at the airport, here in Las Vegas due to fly to Portland for a few days. He was not aware that the FAA had grounded all flights. He watched, amazed, as one plane after another landed as quickly as they could get them down. Our house is under the flight path for incoming and outgoing planes, so those three days with nothing in the air was very eerie.
We had a sister of one of Tony's employees and her friend stay with us for a week. They were due to fly back home and could not afford to stay in a hotel. It took that long for the airlines to get things sorted out and everyone to their destinations.
At the New York-New York property on the strip, a spontaneous shrine started growing. People were leaving tee shirts, notes, photos, flags and flowers. UNLV library has a Special Collections, where everything has been carefully collected, cataloged and put in boxes over the years.
An article in the paper this morning stated that "If lined up end to end, the boxes of tributes would stretch nearly the length of three football fields."
Today has been a day to remember all the people we lost and give thanks to those that helped get us through this tragedy.
I am grateful to be reminded of a time when our country came together as one to help each other out and pray that one day, we can come together again, without a tragedy occurring.
