Derelict Sunday

After being allowed to rot for decades, this little seafront pagoda has been earmarked for restoration, as part of a greater plan to rescue this stretch of Victorian seafront. The neglected seafront has been the subject of much heated debate, and persistent public protest, over the past decade, and at one stage these activities took up quite a bit of my own time and energy. We fought off inappropriate private or unrealistic development and demanded modest development for public use . We were treated as idiots sometimes, and it was often disheartening. And I will admit to having an emotional moment when I saw the official notices go up that outlined the plans for the area. The people won. Not that that will be acknowledged anywhere. But we did!
