Mono Monday 138 :: MM138 :: Traditional
Another shop dies in the traditional way…
Apparently it is said Napoleon called Britain is a nation of shopkeepers. A tradition that seems to still hold true today. A big part of that tradition has been the local shops or corner shops.
My local parade of shops have changed somewhat since I first arrived in the area 35 years ago. Then we had this motor factor, two butchers, a greengrocer, a bakers, a newsagents, a post office, a chemists, a window shop, 2 grocers, 2 ladies hair saloons, dry cleaners, one estate agent, a fish & chip shop and an old fashioned hardware shop. I can’t remember much else, maybe I never used them.
New trades have come and gone over the years and the current new trades include the funeral directors, another ladies hair dresser, a gents hairdresser, an Indian restaurant, a vet, a tanning shop, a cafe, another estate agent, betting shop, and a carpet shop. Rumour has it the old post office may become a Chinese restaurant once planning has been approved and the motor factors may be rented to a physiotherapist.
Gone are the 2 butchers, greengrocer, bakers, hardware shop, post office and now the motor factors. All have been missed, not all the new ones used...
