Gifford Ruins
Our son requested we visit the town named for his father's relatives while we were in Edinburgh. For this we needed to rent a car, mini-van actually because we had a troop of seven. Best laid plans were to be on the road to Gifford by 9:30am. We managed to load up by 11:30 due to an incredibly inefficient car rental procedure at the Edinburgh airport (more accurately, at an offsite rental location a mostly unmarked shuttle ride away from the airport). We did make it to the town for lunch and then followed some sketchy directions into a wet wilderness next to a golf course to discover the ruins of the Yester castle. Much was made of the fact that the former owner was a powerful warlock who was able to raise a magical army of hobgoblins who built the castle. The subterranean Goblin Ha' (Goblin Hall) is the only remaining structure, whose interior is shown here.
