Lewis and Jake

I came home from work ready to take Jake to the vet for a checkup, but when I came through to get him he was covered in blood! Lewis said he had been in the room a few hours previously and he had been fine, but very obviously he was not now! We got him to our vet, who confirmed the worst, that this was not something he was going to get better from! Basically, the speed the growth got bigger at, meant it was very likely a cancerous tumour, which had now ruptured through the skin! You can only see some of the blood on him here, the tumour is to the far side, it's a bit gory! It had either broken by itself, or he had picked at it, and she said once he started doing that he probably wouldn't stop! We made the decision to have him put to sleep, I think it was the right thing to do! We brought him home so wee Fiona could see him, she has tried to preen him, it's sad! Once we got home we realised there was blood everywhere, we had been in such a hurry to get him to the vet we hadn't noticed! He had obviously flown around after it ruptured, our house is like a literal bloodbath! I'm devastated to have lost another pet this year, it never gets easier! I like to think we gave him a good home for the short time we had him!
