Ba Yi Square
The main square in Nanchang, considered by many to be the centre of the city. Ba is Chinese for 8 and Yi means 1. Together they mean August 1st and the square commemorates the 1927 August 1st Uprising in Nanchang by the Communists against the Nationalists and is seen as the date on which the People's Liberation Army was founded. Consequently the Chinese characters for 8, 1 can be seen on army uniforms, vehicles, barracks etc
