Queens College Oxford II
We arrived at Heathrow Airport (London) at 8:35 this morning and took a bus to Oxford. Marylee is attending her 50th Gaudy (reunion) at Somerville, her college at Oxford, for the students who began their studies with her (the English commemorate the start of university, rather than graduation as we Americans do). Ca. fifty women are attending; important for Marylee is that of the twelve who did history with her, nine are here.
As our bus arrived, it passed Queens, the college my father attended as a Rhodes Scholar in the late 1920s for his doctorate. As it happens, we visited last September and I posted this view of the first inner courtyard. The current shot is merged from two images through the bus window.
So far I've been on my own, as Marylee has joined the ladies (Somerville was a single-sex college in her day, though it went mixed ca. 20 years ago); I'm looking forward to the concluding lunch tomorrow, at which partners are welcome.
