The bear hunt
Our walking tour today was on a board walk at herring cove to look for the little black bears. They are normally here as it is the end of the salmon run. We saw a couple of mamma bears with Cubs and one of the older Cubs tried to climb on to the board walk but was scared off by the guide using flares. They were totally unafraid of all us humans. We watched this adult male bear catching female salmon in the creek below. He was unaware of the females and Cubs above. Just as well or there may have a bloodbath. They will kill the Cubs to mate with the females.
Because they are no longer really hungry they only go for the females who have not spawned because they prefer the eggs. They eat those and discard the rest for carrion and seagulls to finish
