Dianthus Caryophyllus

One of the worlds oldest cultivated plants, the carnation, flower of the gods, has been revered for centuries. It is appreciate for it's ruffled appearance, clove-like scent and extended blooming period.  Their various meanings include fascination, distinction and love. Light red convey admiration, dark red expresses deeper sentiments of love. White carnations are associated with purity and luck and pink are for gratitude. A friend from our schooldays called round today and brought me a lovely bunch of them in mixed colours. The time flew by as we talked about mutual childhood friends, some of which she kept in contact with as she has never moved from Cambridge.
