Some 30cm thick The imported concrete was imported was landed in barrels on the beach and barged across lake Ellesmere and carted by dray across country and up the Rakaia riverbed To build the buildings at Barrhill the walls where made of concrete and Kauri beams from the North Island the church was built in 1877
