Peyrusse le Roc

Peyruss le Roc was the most imortant town in this part of France, it says here. This old ruin was claimed for France in 767 by Pepin le Bref, King of France. He fought Waifre, sovreign of the Visigoths and this apparently is the foundations for the stories of Asterix and Obelix etc. These wonderful ruins were gradually left to decay as the folks moved up to the new town in medieval times.

My blip is of the Chateau Inferieur, so called because it's further down the hill than the later chateau. We had lunch in the auberge in the medieval part and then a good walk round the ruins. There are lots more shots here if you'd care to see them. Sadly, it began to rain when we were about halfway round and as we didn't have waterproofs, we retreated before we got drowned. We might get back here again though if we get the chance to complete it. It is a great place for photographs.

This morning there was a mist hanging over the valley and the village of yesterday's blip was obscured. It gradually appeared through the mist and later this afternoon mist rose out of the trees as the rain evaporated and it disappeared into the mist again.
